GM Performance Power Units Approved as F1 Power Unit Supplier

GM Performance Power Units, the company founded by TWG Motorsports and General Motors to build powertrains for the Cadillac Formula 1 team, has been officially approved by the FIA to be a Formula 1 power unit supplier starting in 2029.
With their entry recently being confirmed, the Cadillac Formula 1 Team will join the F1 grid in 2026 and use Ferrari power units until GM’s engines are homologated.
The team will operate out of its European facility in Silverstone, England, and are currently building a new headquarters in Fishers, Indiana. There are plans to open a dedicated Performance Power Units facility near GM's Charlotte Technical Center in North Carolina by 2026.
Industry veteran Russ O'Blenes was previously announced as CEO of the venture. He previously served as the director of the GM Motorsports and Propulsion and Performance team and led development of the GM Performance and Racing Center in Pontiac, Michigan.
